There are a number of ways that our body protects us from
all the pollutants one is exposed to every day. These contaminants are in the
air that we breath, on the food that we eat, and even in the water that we
drink and bath in. Our bodies have an amazing ability to protect itself,
however, it is better if we limit the exposure and cleanse these away
periodically.
One method of protection is by holding water in our tissues
as this dilutes the toxins so they are less concentrated. Another way is by
allowing candida (yeast) to flourish. Yeast grows rapidly especially when there
are excess heavy metals in the system, as the candida acts like “bubble wrap”
to encase the toxins and reduce the damage to organs, glands, and tissues. The
third way is with mucus in the respiratory and digestive tracts. Mucus has a
“slick” property to clear away allergins and irritants so they are eliminated
as phlegm or mucus in the stool.
The final way to protect one’s body is by storing toxins in
our fat, particularly the visceral fat. This is the fat around our organs of
our body. The common apple shaped body is generally associated with higher
levels of visceral fat storage. This type of fat is connected to diseases such
as diabetes, hypertension (elevated blood pressure) and metabolic syndrome.
Visceral fat can’t be seen as it surrounds the internal organs increasing
insulin resistance and diabetes. Stomach fat is located beneath the skin and
“jiggles”. While neither is healthy, visceral fat contributes to more health
problems.
Lifestyle behavior such as diet, stress, exercise can affect
the amount of visceral fat as does genetic makeup since one’s DNA determines
where our body likes to accumulate and store fat. Women typically store more
fat in their thighs and belly while men store excess fat in their stomachs.
Fortunately, one can contribute to these lifestyle factors with dietary
changes, increased exercise that is enjoyable, stress reduction such as meditation,
and realistic cleansing programs.
Cleansing away toxins to counterbalance environmental
impurities allows the body to then effectively use this stored energy. There
are a number of methods to use however keeping the intestines working well and
assisting the liver in its daily operation of being the primary detoxification
organ are best. Internal cleansing with herbs and nutrients as well as topical
creams can provide a comprehensive program to help achieve the health and
appearance so many desire.
